Disgust

A (while digging through the box of shoes): Mom, I'm disgusting!
Mom: Why?
A: Because I can't find my tying shoes!

Birthday

Annika had a birthday. Her third one. We celebrated by taking the camera to school, wearing a special crown, and eating teddy grahams dipped in marshmallow cream. Ugh. I mean, yum!

And since I got a baby for a birthday present a few short years ago, I suppose all this means I had a birthday again too. I'm a year older than last year.

I'll spare you the Spanish and just translate our lunchtime conversation. It went like this.

Mom to A: You need to eat your meat.
A: Why?
Mom: Because it has protein in it and your body needs protein.
A: Can I open it?
Mom: Huh? Oh. No. Only your body can take the protein out of the meat.
A: Oh. What color is the protein?
