My hunk of spunk

At the doc this morning, Keira sat next to me and smiled and giggled and made faces at the nurses. She was hamming it up and everybody was laughing. Until it was time for them to hold her for a few minutes. Her face turned somber and cold, she glared at the nurse, looked longingly back at Mommy, and then stared some more at the nurse. She didn't cry, she didn't fuss. She just stared, stony faced, making sure the nurse was well aware that this was not one bit funny. Back to Mom, she made a rapid recovery from somberhood and when the nurse handed me some business cards, Keira immediately snatched them out of my hand. She was polite about it though. Pleased with her new toys, she looked at me and said, "Ga-da." (Gracias). Later this afternoon, she made it very clear with screeches and wild arms, that her beloved bunny blanket did NOT want a ride in the washing machine. She may only have a few words, but she's got lots of thoughts about things.

10 Months

Keira is 10 months old today. Kids are old and wise by this age. They still take a bottle and cry like a baby, but they're far from stupid. What can a 10 mth old do? Well, some walk or crawl, but not Keira yet. She finds herself beached like a whale on her tummy and she howls for help. Bottoms were made for scooting anyway, so who wants to wear out their knees so young? She does do the important things though. Like eating big people food and saying boom, uh oh, and Mamama at appropriate times. She also says "gi" for again and mimics lots of other word sounds as she hears them. She can participate in a fight with big sister complete with squeals of anger and flailing arms. And most importantly, she knows what a telephone is and how to use it. She curls her arm up to her ear and yacks away. She knows dollies are for hugging and stuffed animals are for squeezing and strawberry pieces are for HER to pick up and eat, all by herself, and don't you try to help. Don't you dare! Unless, of course, you like angry squawks and flailing arms. Keira knows books are for turning pages and laps are for horsey rides and that a few head bops and a "gi" will get you another ride. And the list goes on. I'm telling you, 10 month olds should have voting rights. They don't miss a beat.
